UPSC Civil Services IAS / IFS Prelim Examination 2026 – Complete Details

Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), India’s premier recruitment authority, has officially released the Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination 2026 and Forest Services (Preliminary) Examination 2026 Result on 15 June 2026 (Roll Wise Result) and 17 June 2026 (Name Wise Result for IAS). This is one of the most prestigious examinations in India, conducted annually to recruit candidates for Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS), Indian Police Service (IPS) and 20+ other Group A and Group B Central Government services.

A total of 1013 vacancies have been announced — 933 for Civil Services (IAS and other allied services) and 80 for Indian Forest Service (IFS). Candidates who appeared in the Prelim Exam held on 24 May 2026 can now download their result from the official UPSC website upsc.gov.in. Shortlisted candidates must fill the IAS/IFS Mains Online Formas per the schedule on upsconline.nic.in and begin their preparation for the Mains Examination.

✅ Eligibility Criteria

Educational Qualification:

For Civil Services (IAS & Allied):

  • Bachelor’s Degree in any stream from any recognized University or Institution incorporated by an Act of Parliament or State Legislature in India
  • Candidates appearing in their final year of graduation can also apply provisionally

For Indian Forest Services (IFS):

  • Bachelor’s Degree with at least one of the following subjects: Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Science, Botany, Chemistry, Geology, Mathematics, Physics, Statistics, Zoology, Agriculture, or Equivalent
  • Must have studied at least one of these science subjects at graduation level

Age Limit (as on 01 August 2026):

  • Minimum Age: 21 Years
  • Maximum Age: 32 Years
  • Age relaxation applicable as per UPSC Recruitment Rules:
    • SC / ST: 5 years relaxation (Max 37 Years)
    • OBC (NCL): 3 years relaxation (Max 35 Years)
    • PH (Benchmark Disabilities): 10 years relaxation
    • Ex-Serviceman: 5 years relaxation
